Grant Opportunity


The Thomson R. Bryant, Jr. and Betty R. Bryant Fund at Blue Grass Community Foundation is accepting applications from tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations that provide health and human services directly impacting residents of Fayette County. Funding priorities include basic human needs, housing, homelessness, health and safety, and child protective services. Successful proposals will address community needs through programs and activities that demonstrate sustainable impact and measurable outcomes.  Proposals for program or organizational development support will be accepted.  Maximum grant award is $10,000.      



  • Organization is located in or providing services to residents of Fayette County
  • Organization is classified as a nonprofit charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code; or publicly supported organizations such as a school district or municipality
  • Organization has a complete and up-to-date portrait. is a free, searchable database that contains current, transparent information about Kentucky nonprofits.  Schools and exempt government units are not eligible to have portraits, but are eligible to apply for grants.  These organizations will be required to provide supporting documentation as requested within the grant application. Please contact Barbara Fischer if your organization would like to create a portrait or has questions regarding an existing portrait: or at (859) 225-3343.
  • Organization has completed a grant report for any completed program previously funded by the Community Foundation

Criteria for Review:

While the below list is not exhaustive, applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:


The Organization (based on the organization’s Portrait):

  • Clearly demonstrates an ability to accomplish the proposed activities
  • Evidence of board involvement and financial support                  
  • Evidence of impact on the community                                      
  • Sound overall fiscal condition


The Project (based on the organization’s online application):

  • Clearly identifies and addresses a vital community need that is within the scope of the grant focus
  • Has a significant, sustainable impact on the community need addressed
  • Has a clearly outlined project plan and accompanying activities
  • Clearly states the number served by the program/organization
  • Identifies achievable, measurable outcomes and includes a deliberate plan for evaluating them
  • Secures other sources of financial and in-kind support 
  • Is viable in the long-term and shows a plan for acquiring future funds
  • Project budget is detailed and clearly stated
